Booking Commercial Raft Trips
I want to go on a commercial rafting trip. Who should I call?

Here are two organizations that should be able to help.

Friends of the River 916.442.3155
(Proceeds from these trips benefit FOR, a statewide river conservation group)

California Outdoors 800.552.3625
CA Outdoors is a statewide trade organization representing most whitewater outfitters. They will provide you with a list of member outfitters and the rivers they run.

Riverboarding
Is riverboarding for me?

It's a great sport for someone who loves swimming, loves being in the water and is in very good physical condition.

What equipment do I need to go riverboarding?

A Carlson Riverboard
A helmet and life jacket rated for whitewater
A wetsuit thick enough to provide thermal protection is almost always needed
Shin and knee guards

Where can I go river boarding?

If you already whitewater kayak, canoe or raft then pick your favorite run. If you're not a boater, then taking a trip with an outfitter for the first time would be an excellent idea. Local paddling stores should be able to suggest popular surfing spots. In general, deep riverbeds are preferred and moderate flows are better than low flows.

What class whitewater can I run with a Carlson Riverboard?

Again, this answer depends on your personal skills. There are people running Class V whitewater, but even experienced river runners should start on easier runs until they are familiar with the sport.

What can I expect my first day of river boarding?

A totally exhilarating experience! Be prepared for a good, solid workout. An energy bar or two would be an excellent idea. And stay hydrated; drink lots of water.

How can I get more information on using the Carlson Riverboard?

Order a "Round the World on a Carlson Riverboard" videotape ($15 plus tax and shipping) - available on DVD soon. Check out Bob Carlson and his friends as they tackle really big whitewater and surf huge holes.
